A spokeswoman at Coca-Cola said that while TV is still an important medium from promoting their brands,”many of our recent advertising campaigns and promotions have also utilized online facilities such as Facebook and YouTube more”.

With the launch of Coke Zone, a social media oriented site which offers Coke drinkers access to exclusive content and rewards, Coca-Cola has clearly realized the value of integrating offline and online marketing.

Instead, Chrysler decided not to renew its contract with the agency.

The dustup began yesterday when one of the agency's staffers tweeted from the @ChryslerAutos account: "I find it ironic that Detroit is known as the #motorcity and yet no one here knows how to fucking drive."

They are having a profound impact on technology in general and on content management in particular. Yet people seem to struggle with these concepts and the relationship that exists between the three technologies.

The cloud in particular seems to confound people, but when you link information in the cloud, it makes it possible to get your content from any device anywhere and that's very powerful for users (if a bit scary for IT). From a content management standpoint, it means that content isn't always on premises or always under your control and you have to find ways to deal with that.

Twice last month, the head of the FDA's division of Drug Marketing, Advertising and Communications suggested that little will change. "The process is taking longer than we thought," he said in a New York conference. He said part of the delay had to do with the agency's concern that social media companies might be ephemeral.

He is responsible for Informatica’s global voice to the market, which includes corporate, partner and field marketing.

The thinking about social media in corporate marketing departments is rapidly evolving. Initially, social media was seen as yet another broadcast opportunity for pushing messages out into the world, and for many companies that view persists. A social media consultant recently said that even today, when he approaches potential clients for the first time, they typically refer him to their PR agency, because “they handle Facebook for us.”

A member of question-and-answer site Quora used the service to pose a burning question about a potentially reckless activity: "How do you train for a marathon with a stress fracture in your ankle or foot?" Seriously? Ouch.

Luckily, there happened to be a sports therapist who was reading. "There (are) plenty of marathons left in the world for you to do when the stress fracture has healed," the therapist warned. "The amount of training required for a marathon means that this will severely stress the bone if it's already overloaded, and could even lead to long term problems that stop you running altogether. Get professional assessment, let it heal, and plan the next marathon."

The quick-serve chain employed a like-gating tactic that's become common among marketers on the social site.

Announced on February 8, the brand offered a free beef taco to Facebook users who "liked" it. The offer was good for consumers who had already "liked" Taco Bell - 5.4 million at the time - as well as newcomers. The fast-food brand committed to giving away 10 million coupons for the tacos, which typically retail from $.99 to $1.09. Consumers had until February 15 to access and use the coupons.

Jan 29, Social CRM Doesn’t Exist, But a Need Does

From Houston Neal, Software Advice - http://www.softwareadvice.com/crm/

Social CRM is to the social media craze what eCRM was to the dot com bubble. The enterprise apps community is hungry for a big new category and social CRM smells tasty. As a result, software vendors, tech media and research analysts are all racing to promote and opine on this new market. Gartner, for example, appears to have hastily published their Magic Quadrant for Social CRM, which has been panned as confusing and unfocused.

But Social CRM Doesn’t Exist
In reality, social CRM is a misnomer. It doesn’t exist yet. This catch-all nomenclature implies a category far more straightforward than the diverse set of specialized systems currently targeting the social media opportunity.

“There is no such thing as a social CRM suite yet, says Jacob Morgan, Principle at Chess Media Group. You have community management platforms, CRM vendors, monitoring guys. No one does everything.”

New York-based eMarketer arrived at the estimates by aggregating data from numerous research outlets and supplemented the information by interviewing advertisers and people familiar with Twitter's ad business. It also put a lot of weight on Twitter releasing a self-service promotional platform this year, while citing how ad sales for Google and Facebook exploded after they offered their platforms.

He will step down from the role starting April 4, and co-founder Larry Page will take charge of Google's day-to-day operations as CEO. Co-founder Sergey Brin will devote his energy to strategic projects like working on new products.

Schmidt will assume the role of Executive Chairman, focusing externally on deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership--all of which are increasingly important given Google's global reach. Internally, he will continue to act as an advisor to Larry and Sergey.

BranchOut brings career networking to Facebook. Somewhat similar to LinkedIn. Branchout helps you to connect professionally. It is a LinkedIn competitor and one of the first things it suggest you to do is to import you LinkedIn profile. I have long held an opinion that for regular people, as oppose to marketing droids, being on multiple social networks is not reasonable behavior. But… I actually thought that LinkedIn is an exception. Guess what? There just wasn’t good enough alternative of it on Facebook. Seems that now there is and going on LinkedIn for professional networking might loose it’s appeal.

The report revealed that 70 percent of U.S. Internet users had logged onto the Palo Alto, CA-based social site from August through October - up from 48 percent during the same months in 2009.

That huge gain appears to have stunted growth for Google and Yahoo. Google saw only a lift of 2 percentage points year-over-year for the three-month period, going from a share of 79 percent of all Internet users to 81 percent. Yahoo's results were marginally better, as it went from 79 percent to 84 percent for the same period.

Twitter is the most interactive social-media platform for small businesses, reveals Postling.

Statistics compiled by Postling — a website that allows time-strapped entrepreneurs to manage their social-media accounts all in one place — show 50 percent of the comments and replies businesses received while using its tool are from Twitter users, who also are likely their customers.

"That's a pretty high number," Alexis Lamster, Postling's vice president of customers, told BusinessNewsDaily. "Twitter is a more engaged and responsive platform than anything else — Facebook included."

Do you promote yourself? Do you promote your business? Can you talk about business on your personal pages? Is it all a waste of time or can you really generate leads from it?

Some rely only on creating a website and expecting to be found. That of course, is not enough. Others try SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to have their site rank. That can be great, and when done properly, it is an effective method for getting your site found, but that is not enough either. Once the site is found, you have to capture the lead and then convert that prospect into a paying customer.

Dec 3, Business Value of Social Media Management

The incredible growth of Social Media has added a whole new dimension to Internet Marketing and became an integral part of marketing strategy of every major company. The world of social media is constantly evolving. New services and technologies are being added daily making it hard for most people to keep up the pace. Businesses of all size can no longer afford to ignore Social Media Marketing if they don’t wish to fall below the radar of their online audiences and lose to their competitors who are already deeply involved with social media strategies to engage with their customers.

Social media marketing has its own set of rules and in many ways differs from traditional marketing. The main difference is that a business is not strictly focused on how to best sell its product/service, but rather on building relationships through social media communities. Proper development and management of social media campaigns is detrimental to how your business is perceived by your target audience and will tailor your business reputation both online and offline. If you look at the social media as enhanced word of mouth marketing it will become crystal clear to you how powerful it can be.

Yet, SmartBrief and Summus Limited's Social Media for Business report reveals that marketers may be slow to integrate social media into their overall marketing plans.

More than 3.5 million businesspeople from a full range of business sizes were surveyed. The study shows that more than 60 percent of respondents have social media campaigns in place, but the majority are new to the social realm.

To identify advocates in social media, engage and build relationships with them, and enable them to spread your message virally.

This principle is in my mind immutable for any social marketing effort. It’s the reason we are involved in social media for business. And it doesn’t matter if your business is personal branding, small business branding or corporate messaging for the largest companies in the world. And, I am clearly not as smart as some of the other awesome people I work with at Edelman.

One thing I am pretty good at though is building community. I have been doing it for many years and for many different brands. And, I can only share insights about what is working today. And what works today may or may not necessarily work tomorrow, so please take this with a grain of salt.

Now, I hate to say “content is king” for the sake of saying “content is king” because it’s been said almost as many times as “it’s time for brands to join the conversation.” But at the end of the day, content is what pays my bills. Content is everything on the social web — tweets, status updates, ad units, search, billboards, press releases, copy on corporate websites and blogs, etc. But it’s more than just content!

It’s about using a balanced score card approach for measuring social media activities. Using this method to measure marketing activities is probably nothing groundbreaking and one that I am sure some of you have seen before in social or other marketing context.

Still, I believe that this report will be useful for anyone wanting to measure the value of social media programs and tools in way that delivers the entire picture. Therefore I have summarized the research and put together key points/learning for your attention.

The key point(s) are:

While Facebook is more tsunami than wave, speakers and attendees at MMF, hosted by His Royal Highness Prince Albert, agreed that at the intersection of consumers, media and marketing, social media marketing is sweeping through the industry with a force that promises the radical change pundits have been forecasting for decades and traditional television media leaders have been confident is still far in the future. Unfortunately only a small handful of traditional media company executives attended MMF, even though digital media and media agencies were well represented.

In 2008, the first study in this series, only 16% of companies had a blog and, in 2009, 22% had a blog on their company Web site in order to speak directly with consumers. Not surprisingly, tech companies had a higher social media presence, while insurance, banking and auto companies were less prominent.

Generally, larger companies are lagging industry as a whole in speaking directly to consumers. The companies in the 2010 Fortune 500, which is measured by overall revenue, are blogging at a lower rate than companies in the 2010 Inc 500, a list of faster-growing private/entrepreneurial firms. In 2009, for instance, 45% of the Inc 500 had public-facing blogs.

It is no surprise then that Internet is also used by different industries to promote their businesses – and the real estate market is not one to be left behind. More than just the World Wide Web, though, the real estate market is also now joining the social media bandwagon.

With how hard the real estate industry was hit by the recent economic crisis, real estate agents need a stronger and more effective means of reaching home buyers and sellers. Since more and more buyers and sellers are making Internet an important part of the buy-and-sell process, tech-savvy realtors are joining in on the fun: they have started to connect to clients via the World Wide Web.
